Bosch Vs. KitchenAid Dishwashers - Which one is Better?

by Waverly Wilde

Has your current dishwasher been smelling lately? Is it so old that you can't even remember how many years ago you bought it? Does it just plain not work anymore? Whatever the reason is, if you are in the market for an updated dishwasher, looking for a new one can get a little overwhelming. That's why your friendly local appliance experts at Grand Appliance and TV have provided a comparison chart on two dishwasher brands that we think are excellent in the industry: Bosch and KitchenAid.

So, which one is better? Bosch or KitchenAid. Trick question! Both brands have innovative dishwashers with high-tech features that clean efficiently, work quietly and are very easy to use. The best one is all dependent upon your needs, wants, and lifestyle.

What Do These Appliances Have in Common?

When you look at Bosch vs. KitchenAid dishwashers , they probably don’t look much different – in fact, they have a lot in common. A few notable similarities have less to do with the exterior appearance and more with what’s going on inside those dishwasher walls. For example, one of their best commonalities is how they eliminate the need to pre-wash dishes. Their high temperature and ultra-aggressive wash system ensure that any food debris and stuck on messes will be destroyed by the powerful spray jets.

Also, these dishwashers take the cake for the quietest cleaning cycles in the whole industry. While both are incredibly silent, the new Bosch dishwashers have KitchenAid beat when it comes to Decibels(dB). Bosch boasts the quietest dishwasher brand in the U.S. with models going as low as 39 dB while KitchenAid models make a little more noise, but still impressively go as low as 44 dB.

Lastly, both Bosch and KitchenAid dishwashers have large third racks for greater flexibility when loading the dishwasher. So, if you are someone who feels like there is never enough room inside your dishwasher, both Bosch and KitchenAid have a solid solution for you. Whether you go with the MyWay Bosch dishwasher rack or the KitchenAid FreeFlex third rack, you’ll never feel limited on space again.

What are Their Main Differences?

There are two main differences when it comes to Bosch and KitchenAid dishwasher: how the racks are setup and how the water is heated during their cycles.

Because KitchenAid is mostly designed for U.S. market, the rack are set up appeal to an American lifestyle. U.S. plates, bowls, and more are setup to fit into KitchenAid dishwashers while Bosch fits a more European aesthetic. If you have large, bulky items, KitchenAid is probably a better option for you, while if you have smaller dishware, Bosch may be a better fit in your kitchen.

The way water is heated up is different in both KitchenAid and Bosch dishwashers. Bosch uses a flow through heater, which heats water as it enters the dishwasher. KitchenAid uses an exposed heating element in the bottom of the dishwasher to heat the water. Although, the flow through heater allows Bosch to reach a higher temperature more efficiently than the KitchenAid, Bosch's heating can hold the temperature longer and may clean and sanitize better. The exposed heating element in the KitchenAid dishwasher allows for better drying performance as the element essentially bakes the interior of the dishwasher to dry the dishes. But, due to the intense heating of the exposed element, it could potentially warp or melt plastics on the bottom rack, which wouldn't happen in a Bosch dishwasher.
